Travelling. Business. You probably have an idea of what it looks like but I have had the priviledge of travelling business and first class four times this year with Air Canada. I want to get right to why I thoroughly enjoyed travelling business but first you need to get to know about the experience.
YYZ to SKB- Toronto, Canada to Nevis, St. Kitts- First Class
Okay so this was a surprise. My husband usually books our flights, hold the boarding passes, talks to immigration etc He is truly a gentleman with his old school Trini vibes. So I knew I was going toNevis but had no idea of what seats we were sitting in. When we got to the gate, I realized that we were sitting pretty, pretty close to the front of the plane. HMMMM! When we got into the plan we were in the third row! How exciting! We were greeted with Mimosas and smile. Our jackets were hung up in a cabin closet. The trademark of first class! Momma I made it!
The food was fresh and the drinks were flowing. It was so rewarding to eat well and drink well on a flight to a Caribbean vacation. It was almost like the vacation started on the plane!
Though the plane was a bit smaller, it was intimate. The seats were huge and plush. I was addressed as “Mrs.Farrell” at all times which took some time getting used to but by the end of the flight it was normal.
YYZ to HND- Toronto, Canada to Tokyo, Japan- Premium Economy
This was one of my first non-economy flights ever with my husband but it was sooooo necessary. Travelling 13 hours to Tokyo is NO Joke! You have to be mentally and physically prepare to sit for 13 hours and once you get there…. The time change.
I think I wouldn’t have made it to Japan if I flew economy. Though it is more economical, there was simply not enough space for the journey. Space and being comfortable are essential for long flights. I can’t stress that more. Some people try to make it a smaller issue than it is but once you sit in premium economy, you will just feel the difference in space and comfort.
Along with the lovely food and drinks, the service was great. The flight attendants were willing to help you with anything and really added some cheer to the long flight.
YYZ to LHD- Toronto, Canada to London, United Kingdom - Premium Economy
To attend my cousin’s graduationin the UK, I travelled again on Air Canada’s 787 and in their Premium Economy class. This is the upgraded classes from economy and just below First class.
The major plus was the extra large seats. Though this flight was not as long as Japan’s 13 hour trip, 8 hours in a huge recliner was worth the extra cash. The food and snacks were not as abundant but I got a lot of rest and relaxation on the flight.
There are not many seats in premium economy which makes the section very intimate and quiet. The bathrooms are large once again and you have way more space to move around.
Premium Econony is a great way to spend your 8 hours on a plane.
YYZ- to SFO – Toronto, Canada to San Francisco, California- Business Class … Twice
I travelled to San Francisco from Toronto many times when I was prepping for my move. Sitting Business on Air Canada 767- 300 was a new experience. The seats were convertible pods, allowing you to sleep flat. The pillow and blank provide was up to my public health standards as both were wrapped in plastic. They were also both super comfy.
The service was the same but included a unique perk. You were given a large paper menu with a variety of healthy food options including fruits, oatmeal and even pancakes. You could then choose between having your meal then or 50 minutes to arrival. Cool eh? But like why would anyone want to wait to have their meal 50 minutes before arrival? Well, if you are going to a city with a different timezone, it would help you maintain your eating schedule or help you sleep. It’s your choice.
Quick tips for Travelling Business or Premium Economy
Wear something comfy but chic- You are sitting business, why you look the part. Do not show up in a ballgown but make sure you are comfy, elegant and chic. Stick to black and white, all black or add pops of colours to your look. Wear a scarf to wrap yourself with if you get too cold or you can use the blanket provided. Don’t forget to use the plush pillow and complimentary socks.
Take it one way- Many people think you have to purchase your round trip flight in business class. This is not the case. You can book business class one way, there or return. This trick benefits you if you are heading on a flight from a long tiring business week and want to really relax on your way there or on the way back home.
Stay Hydrated- Drink as much… water… as you can. Ha! The food and drink service in business is such a treat. As long as they have it on board, you have access to it. So enjoy your daily intake of water or… champagne… alcoholic or non-alcoholic. It helps you stay refreshed and prepared for landing. I think this is why the bathrooms are larger and more luxe in Business class. :)
Talk to people- Even I get shy sometimes but sitting business is almost like being in a closeknit community. Everyone is happy to be there and excited to get to their destination. So strike up a conversation and get to know the people near you. Be personable but not personal. You never know who you are sitting next to and they are there for the same ride.
So if you have some extra bucks to upgrade your flight, do it. It will make a difference in your energy, travel experience and maybe inspire you travel more.
