Everyone is in a rush these days. They are rushing to get to work, rushing to pick up the kids, rushing to get the latest fashion. I know the former two reasons for rushing are important but what about the latter?
Rushing fashion can be seen all over social where people are picking up 5 pairs of the same shoes with hopes that they are the first to have them and the last person to post them on social. High street stores are rushing to create quick copies of carefully created designer pieces for less than half the price. Then fashion peeps are rushing to buy the borderline replicas. But why? Why rush fashion?
What happened to the days when before buying something you really think about its feasibility in your own closet and not on how many likes it will get on Instagram or how rich it will make you look.
Fashion has a purpose. It’s initial purpose was to cover our bodies but now it tries its very best to cover our egos.
Take your time with fashion. Wait it out. I have learned the hard way. I often think back to the times when my closet was rammed to the brim with fast fashion. Pieces that I liked for one week and then hated the other.
It was becoming frustrating until I realized… “Quills.. Slow it down…think it through. WAIT! “I say all of that to say that I waited for this lovely YSL clutch I received in July and I am happy with it . It is the perect size and colour.
The bag carries well and the metallic colour is versatile.
I can wear it with gold, silver, bronze on grey.
The gold YSL emblem is a classic Saint Laurent element.
The gold tassel is a delicate detail, adding fluidity to the design.
It is just right.
Purchasing luxury pieces can be very expensive so you have to make sure you really want it and it suits your lifestyle and fashion aesthetic. It is much more satisfying that way. When taking into account all of all factors, your new fashion piece becomes a member of your fashion collection instead of an outsider that hurts your head every time you think about it.
Loving my new 'Kate - Tassel' Woven Metallic Clutch
Wait until you see how I style it.
If you look at my desk, you will see endless colour. I love colourful pens, notebooks, stickers, paper clips and the list goes on. Colour brings me energy and life. I spend a lot of time at my desk and colourful my stationary is very important to my creative energy, ideas and inspiration. The more colour the better!
I have said this before, I write everything down. And the stationary from the pen to the paper needs to be colourful, inspiring and a reflection of me.
My mom recently returned from a trip to the US and brought be back a fun stationary set. I love it. It even matches my metallic motivational folders. The stationary set is not made up of bright colours but the pink, teal and white theme added a lovely calmness to my colour mania desk. I styled the stationary with my Kate Spade book from my awesome friends Angel, along with some vintage pearls. Editorial right?
Not only are the colours special but my mom thinking of while vacationing, means so much.
I was a Louboutin Bride. I didn’t plan to be but it… just… happened (Remember the Fresh Prince episode with his dad?). Ha!The issue with my wedding day shoes was that I wanted traditional white satin shoes. It’s a Trini thing. Wearing white satin shoes on your wedding day is straight traditional and borderline old-fashioned. Does your culture mandate white satin shoes? Ha! Well, they don’t mandate it but it is the shoe that you are expected to wear.
Some brides want the pop of colour shoe, some want the flat delicate lace shoe or even chucks taylor sneakers. I was set on white satin shoes no matter what! However, looking for wedding appropriate white satin shoes was very difficult. The shoes available were either flat, ugly or too high. Sigh! I decided to search online and stumbled upon the Christian Louboutin site. There were so many cute styles in white satin, with a moderate heel.
I decided on the Christian Louboutin You You Sling 100mm.
They were a part of the Louboutin " Something Blue" collection
for brides which featured a blue leather insole.
I was sold.
The shoes actually came from Paris, a total dream of mine. I wanted to purchase my dress from Paris as well but I found a lovely one right here in Toronto. At least my shoes were from Paris but they were the wrong size. I had to return them and they came just in time for my wedding day.
The beauty of white satin shoes is the flexibility of dyeing them after the wedding. After I wore them on my wedding day, I dyed them black. Pretty much a two for one deal. Now, I have a black pair of wearable, practical Louboutins full of wedding day memories.
Surprisingly, my husband gifted me a pair of Valentinos that he picked out for me on my wedding day! OMG! I was totally geeked. In the pics below, I switched my Louboutins for Valentinos!
A moment I won't forget!
To this day, they are one of my favourite pairs of shoes.
TIP: Buy white satins shoes and wear them to your wedding. After the wedding, dye them another colour.
Now I wear them all the time and I am reminded about my wedding day.
You know that one piece that you have always wanted? The piece that you saw your aunts wear and as a kid you documented all of the outfits you would wear with it when you get older? Yeah! This Chanel pin is that piece.
I have a unique fascination with Chanel in that I only appreciate vintage Chanel pieces. Vintage pieces just have this history, this beauty, this authenticity. The gold is just gold-er in vintage pieces. The leather is more leathery and the age of each piece strikes a chord with my fashion heart.
My new vintage Chanel pin was a piece I wanted for years but couldn’t find it. Finally I spotted it from a trusted online source and snapped it up. From the day it arrived, I have been wearing it with everything from beachwear, evening wear and casual looks. It’s gold and can be worn with so many colours and it matches my vintage Chanel Jumbo bag. It is also the perfect size for my… porportions! Ha! I am all about porportions. You do not want anything too big or too small. Everything should be just right!
My dear friend Kami gave me this Iman coffee table book and I thought the beautiful women featured in the book were not only beautiful but were a inspiration for my love of gold and my new Chanel pin.
Vanessa Williams, Serena and Venus Williams, Alicia Keys and Iman are women that are talented, intelligent and have made their mark on the fashion world.
Their skin is golden.
Their hair is golden...just like my new treasured piece.
Yes it has bleach marks and holes but I can't get rid of my University of Toronto sweatshirt. It was one of the first items I bought when attending university and having to let it go will be difficult. I have tried before! It's hard.
I went to a Christian school from grade 5 to grade 9 and it was not until heading to public school in grade 10 did I hear about the University of Toronto. I didn't really know what it was and what was so special about the school. All I knew was that every kid wanted to get in and was determined to graduate. So, I hopped on the band wagon as well.
I researched and found out that the University of Toronto was a well ranked university in Canada and internationally. With a little handwork, focus and drive, I too could get accepted to U of T and graduate. And I did. And so did my brother.
I am a proud University of Toronto Graduate of 2012. I even finished my 4 year program in 3 years.
This sweater even though old, stained and oversized, it is my favourite. I am not letting it go!
