It’s time. I have been thinking about this for a while. I love looking glamourous and feeling confident but not at the expense of my health. For months now I was thinking of cleaning up my makeup regime. I have so many favorite makeup products but many are toxic and not good for my health in the long run.
I am all about the big picture. Yes, I love these beauty products but as a biochemist I know that the chemicals are harmful to me in the future. But I love them. For the past couple of months I have been looking for options and I think I found one.
100% Pure was created by a Chemist who after picking blueberries noticed the pigments on her skin and thought that it would be cleaner approach to makeup. From that experience alone she developed a collection of makeup, skincare, hair and body care products. I had the priviledge of attending the launch of their Better Naked palette.
I attended the event and my main focus was to learn more about the brand. The room was filled with makeup stations for us to sample and try. I immediately gravitated to the lipsticks. There were so many different colors and the fragrance was so aromatic. They literally smelled like berries. I later found out that they were pigmented with fruit pigments making them less toxic. Very Interesting.
Next up I tried the Better Naked platte and loved the golden and nude hues. After speaking with the CEO of 100% Pure I came to find out glitter and shimmer eyeshadows and highlighters use plastic to create the shimmer. PLASTIC ON MY SKIN ALL DAY LONG. 100% Pure uses rushed gemstones to create the shimmer. Wow. I was super stunned and excited to know that my makeup could become jewellery.
My next thought was to look at the foundations. Unfortunately there wasn’t a shade for my beautiful chocolate skin. Being who I am, I asked about the limited shades but was super estatic to learn that 100% will be releasing 20-30 more shades of foundation and hopefully there will be a shade for me. I shall wait.
I left with a bag of goodies from the 100% Pure collection and fell in love with these products from the line.

Are you thinking of using less toxic makeup?
I am so excited to explore the 100% Pure makeup line.
To the 100% Pure team, thank you for having me.
I love your new perspective on makeup.
All of sudden I have turned into an obsessed beauty product lover. I guess beauty is really becoming my thing. Ironicically I have been attending so many beauty launches and get to share my new fav products with you all.
For years I had what I thought was a skin regime. Ha! Read more about it here. But now I have updated my process to ensure I am thoroughly taking care of my skin. I do wear makeup daily and for special events but I used to wake up the following morning after “cleansing” my skin with a colorful pillow. Shocking. Annoying. Gross. Clearly my face was not being cleansed using my process. I decided to upgrade my skin cleansing process from one step to three. I have now included DHC Skincare’s Olive Concentrated Cleansing oil.
DHC hosted a beautiful lunch at a Dumpling restaurant for the launch of their Olive Concentrated Cleansing Oil. Soo cute right. I never heard about oil cleansing until I attended this event. But I was intrigued. For a few months I have been committed to taking care of my skin especially as I am getting "older" and want to keep my skin tight, right and glowing.
Since I received the product at the event, I have been using the DHC Skincare Olive Concentrated Cleansing Oil daily. It is a part of my three step makeup cleansing process. But you can use it alone as well. When I use the DHC Olive Cleansing oil it feels like silk on my skin and leaves my skin soft and supple.
My Skin Cleansing Regime
The product is so rich and adds moisture to my skin rather than drying it out.
DHC Skincare Olive Cleansing Oil contains :
Vitamin E- Nourishes dry skin and helps fight damage with antioxidants.
Oleic Acid- Locks in moisture for all day hydration.
Olive Fruit oil- Soothes and conditions, while cleansing impurities.
It literally quenched my thirsty skin while fighting free radicals and boosting my skin with antioxidants. Here is the best part, The DHC Skincare Olive Concentrated Cleansing Oil has no parabens, colorants, sulfates, fragrances or mineral oil. Winning.
Now that I have been using DHC Olive Concentrated Oil my skin always feels clean, moisturized and is blemish free because it is completely cleansed. You definitely should try it. Shop the DHC Skincare Olive Concentrated Cleansing Oil and many other DHC skincare Products here.
Guess what time it is? New York Fashion Week! Fashion month is here once again. Before you get excited remember, Fashion Week is not always fun, fun, fun. For some of us there a little bit of work. Even though there is some work involved, there are lots of elements of fun. It’s a catch 22.
When I am in New York for Fashion Week, I carry 5 things around with me to keep me alive, hydrated and feeling like a million bucks. I am usually running to and from shows to presentations and going to meetings. But once I have these 5 things, I know I will make it through the day!
Here is my list of the 5 essentials to get me through New York Fashion Week.
A Cellphone Battery Pack
There is nothing worse than have a dead phone midday during New York fashion week. Imagine missing the perfect selfie with your favorite fashion editor. Major bummer. This is why I keep a charged battery pack with me at all times. Keyword “Charged”. An extra battery pack has all of the extra power I need to have my phone pumped up and ready to shoot looks from the runway and to take great selfies. Make sure you get a battery pack asap, charge it up and throw it in the bag.
Purell Anti-bacterial Wipes
Nothing is worse than having dirty hands especially when you are trying to grab a quick croissant during NYFW. Honestly, this is one of the ways I get sick. I may take the chance and eat something without washing my hands. Gross. I know. To help me in the process, I always keep a pack of Purell Wipes in my bag to clean my hands before eating my favorite snack. You maybe on the go and tempted to eat before cleaning your hands. STOP. Purell your hands and enjoy.
Emergen-C Vitamin Packs
This is my go to product during the winter months and even in the somewhat warm city of San Francisco. Emergen-C is a powder you can mix with water to protect your immune system. It gives you a boost of vitamin C, D, B and electrolytes to keep you healthy and happy during one of the most fashionable months of the year. Emergen- c comes in a few flavors but orange is my favorite.
Before I head out for the day, I always open up a pack and throw it in my water. The results are a happy and healthy Aquila.
A Waterbottle or Bottles of Water
Drink. Your. Water. You may be tempted to skip the water and drink coffee. Majo no no. Drink as much water as you can. Water will make you feel alive, it will keep you hydrated and is super healthy. New York is cold during February shows but inside the actual shows are extremely hot. Keep a bottle of water with you to keep you cool and full of H20.
Neutrogenia Makeup Remover Wipes
After a long day of shows, presentations and events who wants to take off their makeup? I do! I never sleep in my makeup. That would be gross. I always take my makeup off, exfoliate, rinse, tone and moisturize. It is a must. If you can’t go through the whole process, at least use a makeup wipe to take it all off. I use the Neutrogena facewipes in the blue pack. The blue pack is the best!
That is it y’all. Those are my must have products during NYFW. They are all essentials. Even if you are not going to NYFW, these are great supplies to have in your handbag to keep you beautiful, healthy and prepared for anything.
Happy New York Fashion Week.
I love designer pieces. From shoes to bags to clothes. Shoes and bags are usually an easy find but clothes can be difficult. This is the main reason why I make my own clothing. Even the best designers do not have sizes that fit me well. Despite popular belief, I wear anywhere from a size 12 to size 16 depending on the designer’s size chart. My waist to hip proportions are a mix of a size 14 and 16. So I am a 12-14 on top with a 14-16 bottom. CURVES! My arms do not really fit the traditional size 12, 14, 16. Often designers do not offer my size especially in dresses. Do you see the struggle here?
Now, imagine a fashion world with designer dresses in extended sizes were readily available. That world is the 11 Honoré world.
Last week a spent the evening at the Park Tavern in San Francisco at the launch of the 11 Honoré’s website launch. The room was filled with some of San Francisco’s top bloggers including Sarah Tripp of Sassyredlipstick.com, model Candice Huffine as well as the Founders of 11 Honoré Patrick Herning and Kathyrn Retzer.
They welcomed me with open arms and we spoke about how much of an impact 11 Honoré has made on the industry of luxury fashion. I know the feeling of having to order a “ plus size” designer dress and then wait quite a while to get it made in my size or to be told it can’t be produced in my size. Sigh. But now there is 11 Honoré.
11 Honoré is a website with designer clothing from sizes 10 to 22. They feature brands such as Zac Posen, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, Baja East, Christian Sirano and Marchesa to name a few. Here is the best part, the clothing is sold at relatively the same price as designer dresses size 0 to 8. Total score.
I tried on two dresses while I was at the launch and let me tell you, it was a a dream come true. To put on a Zac Posen dress in my size warmed my heart. It was definitely an experience. I tried on this red short Zac Posen dress with a sculpted armhole sleeve and a horsehair hem. The dress is perfect for the holidays, valentines day or a wedding guest look.nIt was a size 14 and fit perfectly highlighting my curves and fitting my arms which is usually a struggle.
The second dress I tried on was by Badgley Mischka. This dress was a stunner ( See images below). It was a gold sequin gown with a high neck, cap sleeve and low cowl draping in the back. Again it was in a size 14, fit perfectly and draped my figure elegantly. Dreamy.
So which one should I get? Are you team Red or team Gold? Or should I get both?
Even if you do not wear dresses, 11 Honoré has pants, rompers, sweaters and skirts a swell. You have to browse the site and tell me what you think. I am so excited to shop for my next designer dress on 11 Honoré and pick out more beautiful designer pieces...in my size. Check out the website and let me know what pieces you love.
