It is the day we all have been waiting for, especially the kids. Gifts, brownies and snow fill the holidays. So I am spending the holidays in the gym. Ha! After experiencing over 30 winters, I will be spending Christmas in my home in sunny California. Yes, I am gloating.
I am so happy to see another Christmas and celebrate with the ones I love. Even though the world can be cold and dark, you have the power to make your heart warm with love. Fill your Christmas and your heart with love.
Over the holidays I have fallen in love with Xehar Curvy, a brand that promotes body positivity. The dress I am wearing is under $50 and you can get additional cash off using my code “ Aquila15”. Check out the collection and enjoy the wide selection of curvy clothing at www.xeharcurvy.com.
Most of all may you enjoy the season as we celebrate the birth of our King.
See you on NYE.
I am back from vacationing in the South Pacific. It was a great trip and now I am gearing up for the holidays. Tis is the season to give. This Christmas I want to give you a piece of luxury. I recently gave away a Louis Vuitton gift. Now you have a chance of winning this Chanel gift!
Entering is so simple. Head to my Instagram, find the picture above and follow the instructions.
I’m back from my adventure in the South Pacific. If you have not seen the photos as yet, head to my Instagram to see some of my favorite moments. Visiting Fiji, New Zealand and Australia was a dream of mine. I am happy and blessed to say traveling to the South Pacific has been crossed off my bucketlist. The trip was fantastic and was the longest trip I have ever taken in my adult life. I spent three weeks with my husband who is the only man I could spend so much time with. Ha!
For the entire second half of 2017, I have been celebrating my 5 year wedding anniversary. I love, love and I love my love. The purpose of this vacation was to renew our wedding vows on the shores of Fiji. For this special occasion we wanted to wear something unique and fab.
Gideon’s Needle created a beautiful matching set of His and Hers looks for us to wear to dinner after our vow renewable ceremony. I wore the Peacock set which is a skirt and half peplum blouse. The skirt is solid black fabric with a bit of lycra and the top was made of a yellow and blue peacock inspired cotton print. My husband’s top was a custom designed Ebo shirt using with black fabric as the base of the shirt and the same yellow and blue peacock print as my blouse
So let me start from the beginning, Gideon’s Needle has an e-commerce store and they also have a studio. My measurements were taken virtually via webcam. Gideon, (the name of the actual designer hence the name Gideon's Needle) guided me through the process of taking my husband’s measurements and my measurements. Gideon was so detailed and precise. I totally felt comfortable and was confident the pieces would fit us once they arrived in the mail
5 Reasons to Purchase a Bespoke piece from Gideon’s Needle
When the package arrived at my home, I immediately tried it on… perfect fit. My husband came home and tried his Ebo shirt on… perfect fit. I was so excited. Everything fit so well and the craftsmanship was beyond anything else I have seen. I sew ( as you know) and to see the level of detail by Gideon’s Needle was incredible. Even their label was perfectly placed.
We wore both pieces to dinner in Fiji and the staff, hotel guests and even children stopped us and asked us where we got our pieces, who made them and complimented us on how unique the design was. This is what fashion is supposed to do. Fashion should be a conversation starter and it should be an expression of yourself. We proudly told everyone that our pieces were customer made especially for this occasion. We took these photos just before sunset. I hope you enjoy them.
After our dinner celebration, I packed my look neatly in my suitcase to wear when I returned to California. My husband on the other hand, pretty much wore this shirt for the rest of the trip. He loved it so much, he even ordered a few more.
Gideon’s Needle recently accepted the award for Best in Retail from the New Jersey Black Businesses. I definitely can see why. Congrats to the Gideon’s Needle Team. This award was well deserved. I can’t wait to order more pieces from you. Thank you Gideon’s Needle for making my anniversary to special.

It’s Friday, December 1st, but more importantly, it’s World AIDS Day! More than 1 million people in the United States are living with HIV but 1 in 7 don’t know they’re infected. Yes, gurl! I know you’ve heard these stats before but let me try to make it a little more personal for you. In 2015, black women made up 11 percent of all new HIV diagnoses. Still not moved to action? That’s 16 times as greater than white women and almost five times greater than Hispanic women.
So if you don’t know your HIV status, imma need you to hustle up and make that appointment with your healthcare provider.
But I’m not here to criticize; I want to motivate you into action. This day is meant to show your support for people living with HIV, commemorate those who have died from AIDS-related conditions and, most importantly unite in the fight against HIV. You can do your part by getting yourself tested. It’s scary, I know boo. It has taken me years to convince some of my most vulnerable patients to get themselves checked. But knowing your status is just as important as identifying next season’s fashion trends. No?
So what’s the plan?
In addition to wearing the awareness ribbon, and hashtaggin’ #HIVTestingDay, I want you to get yourself tested…today. There are many AIDS service organizations teaming up with businesses in your community to provide FREE HIV testing. And please don’t try to play me with that “I’m too busy” excuse. They have a one-minute test available boo-boo. Most tests are painless and you’ll receive your results within minutes. Take the test and really show others how to be a #girlboss.
For more information on World AIDS Day and to find a testing site near you visit HIV.gov
Be honest. Do you know your HIV status? Do you plan on being tested today?
