I had all of these plans to do a series of pink outfits to commemorate breast cancer month but with my move it just wasn’t possible. I almost didn’t write this post but my heart told my head that it had to be written.
Breast Cancer. Sigh. It is a killer but it is also the cause of survival, strength and a sense of purpose. Many have died from breast cancer, yet many have survived. It hurts to see your family and friends, your Mother, Sister or Aunt suffer with breast cancer, yet it is also inspirational to see how some have survived. I find strength in their stories and often ask myself… “ Aquila, would you be able to go through this?”.
In October, I think about my best friend’s mom, Auntie Es who fought breast cancer, succumbed to the disease and is now resting in peace. It was hard to see her fight. It was hard to see my bestie worried. But together, mother and daughter supported each other as they worked to fight breast cancer.
And then there are the scare stories. There are women who have had to wait 3-4 days to hear the news about the mysterious lump found while doing a self- examination.
Once again I ask myself…
“ Aquila, would you be able to go through this?”.
I really don’t know if I could do it but I do know that around me there is an amazing support system to help me through.
The Breast Cancer Survivors… I salute you
To those who have passed… I salute you… may you rest in peace.
This is not a look of the day post but it is coming from my heart.
RIP Auntie Esther.
So I am officially on the Chloe Wave. My husband is actually the one that brought this bag to my attention. Here is how the convo went:
H: “ Quills, what do you think about the… Drew Bag?”
Me: * Confused Voice* “How do you know about the Drew bag love”
H: “ It is like that body bag… with the long strap… don’t worry about how I know about the Drew Bag”.
Me: “ Umm Ok then”.
* I think he saw it at Saks and asked the sales assocaite. Ha!
And with that I started searching. My search returned many results and now I am a fan of the Chloe Drew Bag. It is small and the cross body strap can be tied to the length you prefer. You can also tuck the strap inside the body of the bag and it becomes a clutch or pochette. The body of the bag comes in different sizes so the whole proportions issue is handlge. Oliva Pope styles. Ha!
Now what colour would I get? Patchwork, Print or a solid?
But this carmel colour is simple and beautiful.
Too many options but I am sure there is the perfect Drew bag for me.
Who doesn’t want a beauty space? I think with the invention of Pinterest and Instagram, women and men alike want beauty spaces or man caves. A beauty space was at the back of my mind but I knew it wasn't a priority in my first home. However, my husband pretty much let me take over the bathroom and do my hair and makeup thing. Thank you love! But I still wanted one eventually.
I waited for a while for my own beauty space and it is finally here! It is not going to be massive but it will be mine! I am taking you all along for the journey of the design, development and the final process. You will get to see the sketch become reality as well as DIY design details and partnerships with various beauty brands that I love.
Why do I need a beauty space? Well to do my hair and makeup of course but also to have a great background for my new Youtube channel. I am joking. I am not too sure about YouTube, as yet but the former reasons still remain. I really want to wake up to a space that is my own and reflects my personality and creative energy.
Do you feel me ladies?
So let's talk about the details of what I need in my beauty space.
Here are the main requirements:
Vanity Table with Drawers
Hair Supply Storage
Colour scheme: Turquoise, Navy Blue, Orange and Gold. This might change but I want a darker, travelling empress vibe!
Look out for my five ( or more) part vanity series and send your suggestions or any pictures for inspiration on Instagram or to my email.
If you know me you know I love to sleep. My mother often tells the story of me coming home from the hospital as a newborn and not sleeping for two weeks. It was not until she got a pastor to pray over me, I slept like a baby. Pun intended. Since then I am a heavy sleeper with a love for beds.
We are outfitting our new home and needed a new mattress. So when my husband suggested a Casper mattress for my new bed in my Cali home, I was a bit skeptical. A mattress that comes in a box? What kind of thing is that? Ha! I was confused but my husband was convinced that a Casper mattress would give us a sound and comfortable sleep each night. Well this is hard to say, but he was right!
The most amazing thing about my Casper Mattress is the customer service experience. We ordered a king size Casper mattress from our phones via their website. We literally ordered it while shopping in Whole Foods! It was a simple process with lots of options for delivery dates and times. We selected the time and date for delivery and waited.
We didn’t wait long until we received a text message, and then another, and then another. See the Casper text message thread below:
The box arrived right to our door and I was amazed. I starred at the box for half an hour. The stripes on the box really got me. They wrapped around the Casper logo so perfectly. I was wondering if I should keep the box and frame it. Ha!
We opened the box, rolled out the mattress, cut the plastic off and watched the mattress expand. Yes expand. It was soo cool. I even facetimed by bestie EB so she could witness the phenomen that is Casper. Think about it it for a moment.. Witnessing ... Casper... Isn't he a friendly ghost? Ha! EB is a marketing guru and had heard about Casper mattresses but wanted to see it for herself. Thank you FaceTime for making this moment possible for her and I to experience Casper togehter! Ha! I couldn’t believe how flawless and easy the process of ordering and installing my Caspar mattress was.
Our first night sleeping on Casper, I slept well and woke up feeling like I slept on a large pillow. My husband slept next to me but it felt like he wasn’t there. Way to go Casper. You managed to turn my husband into a ghost as well. The mattress is king sized so it was very spacious, soft and plush.
I wanted to keep the box, so I did. Here a fun photo of the box , stool and rug from Pottery Barn. These are the first few things we purchased for our new place. But don’t worry the mattress is being put to work ( Wink wink.) and it was been great thus far. Once my bedroom is put together, I will show you the mattress and the bedding I selected. Now all I need are the Casper pillows!
Casper has got this mattress- in-a- box thing on lock. Not only is their product amazing, easy to order and install, but their twitter account is hilarious. If you love to sleep, Casper’s Twitterfeed is filled with all the sleepy thoughts that you keep to yourself.
Would you try a mattress in a box?
