The John Paul Ataker show was my first show of the season. I hopped off a red eye flight, was picked up at the airport by JT Limousine taken to my apartment. I had less then two hours of get settled into my apartment and head to Skylight Clarkson for the show. I slipped on my slip dress and made it right on time for the beautiful glimmering John Paul Ataker Spring Summer 2018 show.
When I received the invitation to view the John Paul Ataker during NYFW I was delighted. I love sitting shows with more formal gowns and dresses. It is my expertise and personal favorite. I love streetstyle but don’t wear streetstyle very often well. Drama, volume and decadence is more my taste. John Paul Ataker is a designer who uses all of these techniques when creating collections for the woman who wants more.
I also have a deep, deep appreciation for craftsmanship and details ie. beading, fabric development and technique. I love a great t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but a John Paul Ataker gown steals my heart.
I enjoyed the John Paul Ataker Spring Summer 2018 show from the front row and really took in the collection. I looked at every detail. The entire collection was showed in black, ivory and white which was a very great tactic to show the details of the clothing and the message of the collection. There were so many textures featured in each piece of clothing. My favorite fabric was the white lattice cut leather at the front of a ballgown. See photo above.
The entire collection was inspired by the art of fishing, sailing ropes, knitting and weaving artisanship. The collection showcased the merging of different materials and techniques to create a certain look. My fav look was the black gown with the accordion pleated overlay. The skirt was large with a slim bodice. The accordion overlay was a big nod to the fishing theme and I felt like the dress was a seashell.
The shoes were designed by John Paul Ataker with metallic cords and ropes. The gold details on the booties were rope laces. The model’s makeup was barely there and promoted the “ Natural is beautiful theme”. Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls graced the catwalk with fishing ropes tied into their hair which added a regal element to each and every look.
Trends for Spring Summer from the John Paul Ataker Show
John Paul Ataker’s collection was coehesive, creative all while being colorless. The variety of themes and textures appealed to my senses and showed the power of combining fabrics with design. With the shine of the light the white gowns looked golden, the black hues looked like they were glowing and cream was like a pearl.
Thank you to the John Paul Ataker Team for having me at the show.

Attending the Naeem Khan show was such a treat. There are no words to describe the emotions when the lights turn down and the show is ready to start. It feels like you are flying. When the show starts all eyes are on the models. But when the lights go back on, you have been to looking your best.
For the Naeem Khan show I created a specific look. I wanted to wear an oversized yet fluid look. I have had my eye on the Pajama trend for a while. It is being worn everywhere. So the number one tip when wearing the pajama trend is not to look like you are wearing Pajamas or to wear actual pajamas. Ha! You have to look like you are wearing your pajamas but you aren’t. I love the relaxed look and when you select the perfect fabric, the whole look pops.
The entire look was a nod to the 90s. Remember TLC. Remember Queen Penn. Remember Lil’ Kim. This look was for them. They inspired an era of fashion

As a black fashion and travel blogger I am exposed to the beauty industry all the time. Even with the emphasize on Black women and their beauty in recent years, I have seen the development and release of many products and services who cater to black women. BUT TresseNoire has set the bar.
NYFW is all about beauty and fashion. My plans of wearing beautiful fashion were totally set but the beauty part was questionable. I wanted a new look, a fresh vibe and new confidence. I had the vision but wasn’t too sure about the execution.
TresseNoire was the answer. TresseNoire is an app with a catalogue of vetted hairstylists and makeup artists who specialize in black beauty. You can select your hairstyle or makeup look, send it through the app and a hairstylist or makeup artist then comes to your home or location to provide the service. Simple.
While I was in New York for NYFW, TresseNoire was kind enough to send me a hairstylist to give me a makeover just in time for NYFW. The experience was so phenomenal I had to share it with you all.
Let’s start from the beginning.
I was in my apartment and the front desk called me down because my TressesNoire stylist has arrived. I walked into the lobby, turned the corner and was greeted by a stunning beauty with a smile, dressed in a black suit. I was stunned. I thought this was going to be a jeans type of thing. But Jasmine showed up in a suit. LONG STARE. I was impressed.
We scurried up to my suite and the process began. I showed Jasmine her workstation and she set up. I pulled out my picture of the hairstyle I wanted but she already had a copy. ANOTHER LONG STARE. Impressed. I expressed my concerns about the hairstyle I wanted to get and she calmed me down. I literally trusted Jasmine in the span of 10 minutes. She then took the lead and I relaxed.
Within the next hour, I had a new look. I couldn’t even believe it was me. It truly was a makeover. Jasmine exceeded my expectations. TresseNoire exceeded my expectations. First of all it was a simple process, Jasmine did a beautiful job. She earned my trust. Second, I looked beautiful. The curls were soft and bouncy. Finally, would I do this again, yes! I visit NYC all the time and love to get glam. With this simple process, I can get glam faster and without any hassle. Here is a picture of me and Jasmine right after she completed my hair followed by the final look.
The experience was ultra luxe. I loved my look. The service and attention to detail was appreciated. TresseNoire is great for the woman on the go who wants to head from the office to dinner but wants to amp up her look. Or the glam princess, like me who is always heading to an event. Or hire TresseNoire for your bridal party. Or treat your bestie to a girls night.
Thank you TresseNoire for adopting such a high standard of excellence. Head to my Instagram to see a video of transformation. In the meantime here is the final look.

Tell them I sent you.
Naeem Khan is the one to beat. Yes, I know it is not a competition but every collection he creates, tops the last one. Even as his collections continue to get more beautiful, more detailed and more elaborate, they are distinctly Naeem Khan.
Who is the Naeem Khan woman? She loves color, textures and fringe. She is bold and is immersed in luxury. She is confident, strong and fills her life with inspiration. Oh yeah, she only wears Christian Louboutins.

During New York Fashion Week, I had the privilege of sitting front row at the Naeem Khan Spring Summer 2018 show. From the front row you experience the clothing in an intimate way and take the best photos. I witnessed the movement of each tassel, the sparkle of each bead and the layers of lace appliques on each dress.
For months I have been watching the development of the collection. I am so thankful to Naeem Khan for giving his followers a glimpse into the design process. On Instagram he showed the lace construction of one of the dresses. To then sit at the show and actually see the dress in its entirety on the runway was definitely a fashion lover’s dream. I also witnessed Naeem manually design the fabric for the collection. He literally hand drew the print( See image below) and then turned it into a fabric. This is the true essence of fashion design.

My favorite look from the collection was a pink beaded jacket with collar details and matching mini dress. The pink color was more a hue and very feminine. I also loved the pink floral embroidered kimono with lace bustier and drawstring tuxedo pant. I am all about Kimonos right now so this was a look I would wear on one of my luxury getaways.
