New York Fashion Week can get hectic. You are literally running form show to show, changing into a million outfits all… day… long. Looking your best is so important and when someone understands your beauty goals, it makes the glam process easier. I have naturally curly afro texture hair and want to work with stylists that understand my hair. This is why I am so excited to have TresseNoire Beauty as my glam team this New York Fashion Week season.
TresseNoire will be glamming me during my stay in New York and the best part is they are coming to me. Imagine having hair and makeup done in your living room? I can't wait to have the whole TresseNoire team there to make me look my best. TresseNoire has hairstylists with over 40 years of experience in the industry. Each one is carefully selected to uphold the high standards of TresseNoire Beauty. Most of all they have experience with natural hair and beauty.
Don’t worry you will be able to see everything as I will be filming it on my Instastories and doing a full review on my blog. What hair and makeup should I wear during New York Fashion Week? E-Mail me some ideas.
Oh and don’t forget to book your appointment if you are in the NYC, Philly and DMV area.
Follow TresseNoire on Instagram and check out their website here.
It is the end of August so that means September is almost here. This means New York Fashion Week is almost here. If you have never been to NYFW follow my account on Instagram to see the whole process, see the shows and experience the whole season of fashion. I have been going to New York Fashion Week for the past couple of seasons and it is a very exciting month to be in New York. Along with endless fashion, the city of New York is packed with the best and bravest in fashion, art and culture. Some people say that NYFW is too crazy but I totally enjoy the overdose of fashion and fashion people all in one place.
As you know New York Fashion Week is all about the FASHION. I love making my own clothing but I also love working with up and coming female owned companies like Castlefield. This season I have the pleasure of wearing designs by Castlefield a luxury design brand out of my hometown, Toronto. Castlefield is the brainchild of luxury graphic designer Sophie Taylor. I truly appreciate a great print and Castlefield has some of the most unique prints. The Castlefield Boutique has a wide variety of pieces all the same print. Select your print, then pick your piece and make sure you get one for you and your bestie. There is stationary, handbags, dresses, t-shirts and even home decor. The Castlefield concept is so cool and really makes it easy to be fashionable and chic.
The best thing about Castlefield is the free shipping to US and Canada with No minimum. I can’t wait to show you all how I style my Castlefield pieces during New York Fashion Week. Until then, head over to their page and purchase some beautiful pieces today. Castlefield pieces can be purchased at www.shopcastlefield.com

After scrapping this e-book twice, ignoring it for months and doubting if I should even release it…. My e-book Biochemist to Blogger is here. I could write another e-book about this e-book but I am going to keep it short. I really wanted to share a bit of my story wit you all. I wanted to dive into how I started this blog, what I did on my first day going live and the opportunities that came my way. Even when I was starting my blog, I wanted to scrap it but with the support of my husband and brother it came to fruition.
My husband really pushed me. He has always pushed me to be better and to just go for it. He told me years ago I should start a blog but I was so focused on going to medical school and research I totally ignored the major talent I had of connecting with people and sharing my love for fashion. At the time I couldn’t see how it would work. I ignored him but in reality I was not ready.
It as not until I lost my job, couldn’t find another one and almost ended up in depression did my eyes open wider than they ever have before. My husband was persistent and proposed the idea once again but this time he wanted to make a $500 investment. I took it and with the help of a friend, I designed and created my blog.
My brother believed in me. He always has. He promoted my blog when it first launched. He sends me ideas and critiques the ones I have. He edits my work and emails me sources of inspiration daily. My brother edited my e-book so if it has errors blame him. HA. Even on this journey, my brother stood by my side and having him on my team makes me stronger. Thank you Dan.
My husband and my brother are my everything and their support means everything. Every experience I have gained is because of them PUSHING ME, ROOTING for me ME and BELIEVING ME IN ME.
I get questions everyday about how I have been able to sustain and maintain such a beautifully curated blog and personal brand. It really wasn’t easy but I did it. In 90 days, I quit my job as a biochemist to blog full-time. In 12 months I have landed major fashion, beauty and travel partnerships. Now I am flying round the world to stay at luxury hotels and all I had to do was blog about my experience! Find out how I turned my luxury fashion and travel passion into a career simply... by... starting... a ...blog.
Biochemist to Blogger will:
Even if you do you not want to start a blog or are not sure about blogging, purchase my e-book and get a glimpse into the thought process I use for all my projects and in life.
Here is a small preview.
It is my birthday sometime this week…. Pick up a copy for yourself, your mom and your besties and make me smile. Share your copy on Instagram and tag me on Instagram.
Biochemist to Blogger is finally here.
There is no better feeling than when your childhood friend becomes your husband’s best friend. It just feels good! I had the privilege of witnessing my child hood friend Derique ( now my husband’s best friend) get married on the weekend. We fly into Toronto for a slew of celebrations. My home church in Toronto was turning 40 years old, Derique was getting married and out family threw us a surprise 5th Anniversary party for us. The weekend was a whirlwind!
For this occasion, I really wanted to wear pants. As of late, I have been a pants girl! They just feel comfy and totally go against my regular look. I wanted to take the risk and rock pants to the wedding. It wasn’t a traditional wedding at all. It was more of a concert style and was held at the Toronto Centre for Performing Arts. Snazzy right!
When are you attending a wedding you have to think about everything. Well, at least I think about everything. You have to think about the look you are going for, the vibe of the wedding and the venue. You don’t want to be hot or uncomfortable. Here are the 5 things I think about when selecting my look as a wedding guest:
I had a pair of red pants ( from a previous outfit I made) and wanted to make a gown style blouse. I found a beautiful sateen red and purple fabric and knew it would match perfectly. This top is made up on three pieces, the neckline, the bodice and the skirt. When I am designing a piece, I think of it all based on shapes. So the neckline is a long rectangle, the bodice is kind of a square and the skirt is a huge circle. Because I do not sew using patterns, my mind is filled with designs in the form of shapes. This helps me construct a piece and nail it. I also had a large flower applique that I purchased a while back. After placing the applique on the bodice, I stitched it down to add more detail to my look. I paired the look with my Jimmy Choo Anouk Pumps and YSL Clutch.
I showed the process on my InstaStories. Did you see me create this top on Instastories? Here is the result. What do you think?
Congrats to Derique and his beautiful wife Kara.
Welcome to the Club.
