When I started to travel more frequently, I had no plan. I was just going from trip to trip with no strategy for packing my clothing, makeup or hair necessities. This was becoming a problem because I was showing up in a new city with no concelar or no head tie. Not. A. Good. Start. To. A. Trip. I also did not understand the full importance of having a plan when leaving the comfort of your home and heading to other countries.
Leaving for the airport is my favorite part of travelling. There is just so much excitement when heading to the airport. Heading to the airport to visit a country or to head home ignites a very nigh energy in me. The excitement to explore another country is enthralling and returning home to tell my experience with my suitcase full of trinkets is delightful. I also love hanging and eating in the airport lounge but that is for another post.
After all my travel experiences, I have realized the importance of not only preparing myself for a trip, but my home. I have come home too many times to dying plants, a smelly fridge and dirty dishes. Talk about frustration and yucky moments.
One day it just clicked… “ I should create a checklist of things to do at home prior to heading to the airport”. This is important because depending on how long you are leaving home, it may have an impact of your home.
I really think your home grieves when you leave. Ha! I know kinda weird but I really think it does. Preparing your home for vacay or a trip, makes it more secure, clean and fresh for when your return.
Because home prep is often overlooked prior to heading to the airport, I prepared a helpful checklist.
Before leaving home:
What do you do to prepare your home for your vacation or trip?
Yes it has bleach marks and holes but I can't get rid of my University of Toronto sweatshirt. It was one of the first items I bought when attending university and having to let it go will be difficult. I have tried before! It's hard.
I went to a Christian school from grade 5 to grade 9 and it was not until heading to public school in grade 10 did I hear about the University of Toronto. I didn't really know what it was and what was so special about the school. All I knew was that every kid wanted to get in and was determined to graduate. So, I hopped on the band wagon as well.
I researched and found out that the University of Toronto was a well ranked university in Canada and internationally. With a little handwork, focus and drive, I too could get accepted to U of T and graduate. And I did. And so did my brother.
I am a proud University of Toronto Graduate of 2012. I even finished my 4 year program in 3 years.
This sweater even though old, stained and oversized, it is my favourite. I am not letting it go!
Packing my hair and makeup supplies used to be such a tedious task. There are so many things to pack, everything is leaky and you always want to pack each and every makeup brush. SMH! After a few failed attempts, I decided that I needed a strategy for how I would pack my hair products and supplies and makeup must haves.
I used to pack them together in one bag but that was NOT working. Now I pack them separately to avoid any issues with leaking.
My mother-in-law blessed me with a Mary Kay makeup brush case and it doubles as a makeup bag type thing. At first I thought it was not going to help me but now it is a key staple for packing my makeup. It holds my brushes, has a makeup bag in it and a section for blushes and eye shadows.
In this makeup brush case I put the following:
The makeup that I wear to actually travel in, I keep in my handbag. Recently I was listening to a Youtube interview with blogger and fashion creative Margaret Zhang where she suggests not wearing make up when travelling... not too sure about that move but I may try it and see how it goes.
Before heading to the airport my hair is usually tied down and then I touch it up before I head out. So I still need last minute access to my hair tools. My hair must haves are literally packed in a plastic bag. Why? They are always leaking, can stain other things and are usually the last thing that I pack. The plastic bag is easy to throw away if something leaks. What is in the plastic bag?
What hair tools or products to you pack?
How do you pack your makeup supplies?
Do your hair product leak sometimes?

Oh yes you can! MAC makeup is a very key brand in my makeup collection. I own Tom Ford Lipsticks, Chanel Lipsticks NYX primers but always run back to MAC. I have many MAC products but my favourite are the lipsticks, liners and blush. My Auntie Anto was the first person to introduce me to MAC cosmetics because it was affordable but still was full of quality.
Here are my 6 reasons why I love MAC products.

Who would have thought that a purple leather GUESS watch would mean so much to me. It is not necessarily the watch but the person that gave me the watch.
He picked me up and blind folded me. I asked where we were going and he said it was a surprise. After driving 10 minutes, we arrived at our location. Milestone's Restaurant. We entered and I was greeted by 25 of my closest friends. It was my surprise twenty-first birthday party.
With my nearest and dearest friends we dined the night away. It was over cool ( yes over cool) that he after meeting me for a just a few months knew who to invite to this dinner, figured out how to contact him and had ALL of them seated at this dinner right on time.
He was paying attention.
He still pays attention.
At the end of the dinner, he presented me with a gift bag. In it, was a watch. Purple leather with leopard print band. It was different and looked more like a bracelet than a watch. I fell in love as GUESS was all the rage at that time. He explained that he searched all of Ontario for this version of the watch because it was purple, my favourite colour.
Since then, my husband has given me many other gifts. Some more expensive, some less expensive. Many invaluable. But the GUESS watch was special because it came from him and from his heart.
