Happy Monday. I spent my Sunday with Erica Dias and her hand selected Table of 20 guests at the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus. Erica hast hosted 27 power business lunches in various cities. As a successful PR maven and author of Faith It Till You Make It, Erica has made it her mission to continue the conversation amongst people of color in business. For her notable Table of 20 event, Erica selects 20 people to dine, brainstorm and inspire each other at some of the most prestigious restaurants in the country.
I was proud to be one of the 20 people at her luncheon in San Francisco. The room was filled with positive people ready to share their knowledge on business, balancing family life and living their purpose. The lunch menu was delicious but my main focus was listening to everyone’s personal story of victory. I shared my Biochemist to Blogger story and some of the tips that have made me stand out from rest in the world of blogging and fashion.
My SIKA Collection Dress
Another highlight was my dress. This SIKA Collection dress was the perfect choice for an afternoon of dining and networking. I met the designer while in New York for fashion week and they gifted me this dress. I wore a size 12 and it fit perfectly. The flowing design provides comfort while letting you command the room with a fitted bodice. You can get this stunning dress at 30% off here.
SIKA collection runs from size 10-26 and has numerous styles of dresses to choose from. I was really impressed with all of the details of this dress… from the stretch lining to the delicate lace and the adjustable straps, this dress exceeded my expectations and made me feel confident.
The weekend was perfect. I am so ready to kill it this week.
Thank you Erica Dias for a memorable afternoon.
SIKA Collection, I love this dress.
Thank you for making me feel like an angel.
Rain can really dampen your day. Ha! Get it? It has been raining like crazy in San Francisco and we got some heavy showers while I was in New York during Fashion week. Even if you may have missed the rain memo or dislike rain entirely you should keep your wardrobe prepared with a few rainday essentials. Here is my list of 5 Rain essentials for every closet.
5 Rain Essentials For Every Closet
Who doesn’t love a bit of pink? Well in this case a head to toe look of pink. I DO.
Good thing I brought this jacket to NYFW. It was raining for the first part of the trip. So this patent leather jacket kept me warm and dry. Annndd patent leather is back with a vengeance. I wore a pair of Who Wore What pants with a turleneck from Nordstrom. My boots are by Dav and the coat is from ASOS. I made my headpiece. Issa a look. Oh and I listened to Kanye and wore small glasses.
Thank you to the talented Ashleigh Reddy photographer Extradordinare.
My second rainy day look was pretty much a full body raincoat. The pants, made out of patent leather, were excellent for repelling the rain. Even stylist June Ambrose complimented me and said it was the perfect look for the rain. I didn't even need an umbrella. Hypehair.com loved this look so much, they added me to their 12 Head Turning Street Style looks from NYFW. I purchased the whole look from the Who What Wear collection from Target and it was a winner! Thank you Nairisha for this gorgeous photos.
What are some of your rain day must haves.
Zang Toi took a room full of people on an Haute Roman Holiday. Inspired by a recent trip to Rome, The Zang Toi collection was filled with Red, Pink, Orange and supported by Black and Grey. Zang Toi loves lace and drama. He gave us both in his Fall 2018 collection… and with a little mink, cashmere and tulle.
The collection was filled with so many wearable pieces as well as pieces that made a statement. Long gown with capes, men’s velvet suits and mini dresses with ballgown skirts, were nods to Rome.
The collection was not only focused on garments, the accessories were just as gorgeous. The fur stoles and flower hats were contributed to the Roman Holiday theme but were also very wearable. The models sported short dark hair and even red hair. I loved the hair details because it added a sleek and elegant look to the models. Zang Toi showed his understanding of current events designing a backpack in aid of the Jed Foundation’s Suicide Prevent Campaign. The most unique accessory was the long diamond necklace on a bare back of a model in a black dress with a plunging back.
Every season Zang Toi uses his signature silhouettes and changes the accents to reflect his inspiration for the season. You will always find a kimono type jacket or sheath dress. The prints of the season were Tartan and floral.
My favorite look was the red pants and a long red jacket with a lace covered hem. I could see my Aunt wearing this look for an evening out. I also loved the black Hoisery with red gems on the back. Red Hosiery was also featured as well as
Once again Zang Toi showed us why his shows are always packed, his new boutique has been so successful and why the House of Toi is a highly sought after international design house. Zang Toi thank you for having me. I look forward to witnessing your Spring Summer Collection in September.
If you told me I would be where I am today, I would have told you NO. In the past few years I have really evolved. I figured out my personality type and really maximized my life based on my my strengths and weaknesses. I went natural with my hair, took my fitness seriously, got married and am… literally… killing…My… game. I am better than I was last year… last month… last week…
I suffered from depression for a few years. No one knows this. I was constantly smiling but very sad. I was pursuing the wrong dream and hoped it would work out. After really sitting down and figuring out what I wanted, I realized it was not a career in medicine. I wanted a career in fashion. Now I am A Biochemist to Blogger and I am overjoyed with the direction my life is going.

Naeem Khan is not only a designer. He is a feeling. An Emotion. A Pulse. From the first Naeem Khan show I attended in 2017, I realized that Naeem Khan shows are a continuous story. Every season is continued from the last by including design elements which are signature to Naeem Khan. As I sat in Spring Studios and witnessed the Naeem Khan Autumn/ Winter 2018 show during NYFW, all of my senses were heightened.
The collection displayed a new approach of evening wear by building evening wear looks using separates. Instead of the traditional gowns, Naeem Khan included jackets, tops, skirts and belts. I personally shy away from separates all together because styling them can be difficult. But the Naeem Khan collection was anchored on separates working together to create a sophisticated and vibrant look.
From detailed embroidery to the signature Naeem Khan beaded fringe to taffetta, bustiers and satin, separates were the foundation upon which these design elements were built. The theme of the "global woman" was seen in each intricate design and in the work of each person who embroidered the Naeem Khan pieces.
My favorite look was the emerald green beaded fringe straight skirt with a black jacket. With every step, each bead glistened and shimmered. And as a peek into the Louboutin world you could see the red soles peeking out from each gown. I also loved seeing hoods featured on evening gowns.
This collection is perfect for a queen, a bride-to–be or a Nubian treasure. But it will also be a favorite to celebrities and women who want more than just a jacket to wear.
Major Trends from the Naeem Khan Autumn/ Winter Show
The soundtrack for the show was magnificient. While I walked into the show, I was captivated by recording of the voice of SZA singing Broken Clocks. During the show Madonna’s Frozen took me back a few years and the deep bass hit my soul and became the perfect backdrop to the stunning clothing.
Even though we didn’t get to touch the clothes, you could feel them. Each piece was filled with texture, dimension and movement. As the models walked you could feel the weight of each piece, you could feel the thread and you could feel the bristles of the velvet. I wish I could have touched the pom-poms on this looks below. I felt like I was watching a parade in Peru. An course all of the OTK boots were highly embellished with crystals, flowers and beads.
What could I smell during a fashion show? Trust me there is a smell and it was the smell of excitement, royalty and elegance.
You could taste the emotion and could feel every step from the models who appeared to be over six feet tall with their Christian Louboutin pumps. I could also taste the fresh mint reviving me while trying not to faint because of the intense colors and fierceness of the models. Ha!
Yes this show was an experience.
Yes it was a gorgeous collection we will see on red carpets globally.
Yes this collection will be worn by women who want to wear a piece of Naeem Khan history.
Naeem Khan you did it again.
Thank you for having me at the show.
Looking forward to next season.
